Broward County
Implementation Plan
FY 2024-2025 Plan
The Broward Addiction Recovery Center (BARD) has put forth a comprehensive proposal for the utilization of Opiate Settlement Funds. The plan, structured into five major components, aims to address the Opioid epidemic in Broward County through a phased approach. The plan’s phases are categorized as immediate, 1-3 months, 4-8 months, and beyond 9 months.
The first component focuses on enhancing the competency of BARD’s staff through training. This training aims to equip staff with the necessary skills to better serve individuals affected by substance use disorders, particularly Opiate use. The training will cover various critical areas such as trauma, human trafficking, mental health, and adverse childhood experiences.
The second component emphasizes community engagement and outreach. This component seeks to provide therapeutic services within the community to support vulnerable individuals recovering from substance use, especially in the context of the Opioid crisis. It includes sustaining the Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program and extending therapeutic services to strategic locations in the community.
The third component involves expanding detoxification services to increase bed capacity and offer round-the-clock medically monitored detoxification services to Broward County residents. This expansion aims to meet the growing demand for detox services in the region.
The fourth component, peer support, is designed to provide ongoing support to individuals in recovery. It includes community education and prevention services, in-home wrap-around services, and assistance with emergency shelter, recovery residence placement, and permanent housing linkages for at-risk individuals recovering from Opiate use.
The fifth component introduces a mobile unit equipped to deliver essential services to combat the Opioid epidemic. This unit comprises subcomponents such as HIV and STD testing, Narcan distribution, education, safe needle exchange programs, case management services, MAT services, and a crisis team for immediate intervention in mental health crises.
