City of South Miami
Implementation Plans
FY 2023-2024 Plan
The City of South Miami has allocated $5,333.13 towards a project with an annual cost of $28,920 to provide access to housing for people with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and co-occurring Substance Use Disorder/Mental Health (SUD/MH) conditions. The remaining balance of the project’s cost will be covered by the city itself. This initiative falls under Schedule B: Approved Uses, specifically section B.4, which includes a range of housing assistance programs and services.
To implement this plan, the city will partner with NEW HOPE C.O.R.P.S., INC., a not-for-profit organization in Florida. NEW HOPE C.O.R.P.S., INC. will offer an unhoused outreach support program that includes a dedicated outreach team. This team will provide various services such as engaging with unhoused individuals on the streets, enrolling them in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), linking them to emergency shelters, substance abuse and mental health treatment options, referring them for permanent housing, and connecting them to community resources. The outreach team will work 3.5 hours twice a week, performing tasks such as outreach and engagement with unsheltered individuals, providing information about local support services, completing specialized street outreach assessments and HMIS data screenings, linking individuals to emergency shelters or SUD/MH treatment, communicating with licensed clinicians for treatment referrals, assisting with housing searches and lease agreements, and providing limited transportation to service locations.
This summary encapsulates the key elements of the City of South Miami’s implementation plan for addressing the needs of individuals with OUD and co-occurring SUD/MH conditions. It highlights the funding allocation, the partnership with NEW HOPE C.O.R.P.S., INC., and the comprehensive range of services that will be provided to support unhoused individuals in the community. The justification for this summarization lies in its focus on the essential aspects of the plan, including the financial details, the collaborative effort with a not-for-profit organization, and the specific services aimed at assisting those in need, thereby providing a clear and concise overview of the city’s initiative.
