Brevard County
Implementation Plans
FY 2023-2024 Plan
The Brevard County Board of County Commissioners adopted the Brevard County Opioid Misuse Abatement Plan on October 26, 2021, outlining a process for utilizing opioid settlement funds. This plan involved expanding the membership of the existing community advisory board, Together in Partnership (TIP), to include representatives from the county’s largest municipalities and other key stakeholders.
Two sub-committees were established under TIP: a Review Committee to prioritize elements of the plan and conduct a Request for Proposal (RFP) process for top priorities, and a Recommendations Committee to oversee the RFP process and make funding recommendations to the County Commissioners. The Review Committee’s initial meeting on June 20, 2023, led to the decision to conduct three RFPs focused on enhancing/expanding Medication Assisted Treatment Services, developing a multi-year media/marketing campaign to address opioid misuse, and providing education/training for Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). However, no responses were received for two of the RFPs, focusing the efforts on enhancing/expanding Medication Assisted Treatment Services and the media/marketing campaign. Following the RFP process, the Recommendations Committee met on October 31, 2023, and selected two agencies to provide Mobile Medication Assisted Treatment Services within Brevard County and one agency to develop opioid misuse abatement strategies. The Brevard County Board of County Commissioners approved these recommendations on November 21, 2023, and contracts with the selected agencies were finalized in April 2024.
This summary captures the essence of the Brevard County Opioid Settlement implementation plan by focusing on the establishment of the advisory board and sub-committees, the prioritization and execution of RFPs, and the selection and approval of agencies for service provision. It condenses the detailed procedural and operational aspects of the plan into a coherent overview, highlighting the key steps taken by Brevard County to address opioid misuse through strategic use of settlement funds.
