Guy Wheeler is the CEO of Guy A Wheeler Group in Plantation, FL, and functions as the Co-Owner of THE PINWHEEL GROUP. The Pinwheel Group produced the Habilitation Empowerment Accountability Therapy (H.E.A.T.) curriculum. The Heat curriculum is a clinical PROMISE PRACTICE implemented across the country. HEAT works with the substance abuse community that has impacted the criminal justice community. The HEAT curriculum recently appeared on the front page of the SAMHSA magazine, both nationally and internationally.
Mr. Wheeler is respected as a national/international expert in treatment, consulting, and training with a strong focus on criminal behavior, substance abuse, and mental health. Recently, Guy was placed into the HALL of Fame (ALL Rise) in the nation’s Therapeutic arena of Mental Health and Substance Abuse. He has won all the top awards in South Fla, including the JM Achievement Award, the prestigious Telly Award, and many more.
As a quick history, Mr. Wheeler assisted in starting one of the first Non-Residential Day Treatment Programs (NRD) in the state of Florida in 1987. This program mainly targeted Crack Cocaine addicts and drug-related offenders. To connect this program with the Sectarian society, Guy was instrumental in motivating the ecumenical community to provide adjunct support services for people with addiction.
In 1992, Guy Designed and implemented the second Drug Court in the country. This innovative treatment program worked with felony offenders who were court-ordered to substance abuse treatment. This holistic program offered intensive day/night counseling and vocational/educational involvement.
He later moved to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) – Department of Detention & Community Control, in Fort Lauderdale, as Assistant Director (equivalent to a Major). Guy held a high-ranking director position and provided administrative and managerial direction for outpatient and in-custody programs that offered substance abuse treatment, education, and prevention services for one of the country’s largest accredited Sheriff’s departments.
Beyond counseling/consulting in South Florida, he is a business owner, professional speaker, teacher, and minister. Despite constantly speaking and teaching across the country, this servant finds his greatest joy in serving. For the last seven years, he has been on the streets with the WESTSIDE Gazette BOYS, talking about the GOOD NEWS (GOSPEL) and helping to set captives free.
